Location Recce

For my location I found it difficult to find somewhere both suitable and available. For the opening sequence I wanted somewhere with an urban, perhaps slighlty gritty quality. The sequence invlolves myself being followed from behind by a camera as I make my way to a small room which to the audeince is supposed to represent the place where the band performs the song.

The first place I found was a music studio behind Clapham Junction. I found and visited the studio so that I could contact the owner. After a couple of weeks of leaving messages, he finally responded by saying that he wasn't interested.

The order of the photos shows what my journey would have looked like in the video, ending with me walking throught the door in the last photo with the camera following closely behind. I was not actually going to use the studio itself as I knew it would cost me a fair amount.

While my attempt to use this location was unsuccessful I found the experience advantageous as it gave me a better idea of what type of location I wanted to find.

The music studio was an ideal location, not only because of the look but also because it was a music studio, at least to those who where familiar with the location, it would help add realism to the sequence.

appeared to have been delivered inside this room. I was therefore unsure as to whether the room would be available for public use. To have permission to use the room I talked to a member of staff who handed me an email adress for Noel Goodwin, with whom I would need to contact if I wanted to use a room in the building. I have since sent Noel Goodwin an email asking permission.

He shortly responded by asking when I wanted to use the room.

After failing in my first attempt to secure a location I decided to journey to Southbank as much of the urban look, culture and diversity evident in Clapham Junction is represeneted to an equally, of not larger degree in Southbank. For instance, the concrete structures eveident in the photos are typical of an urban, gritty atmosphere in London. The order of there photos, like the first series of images above, also depict the journey I would like take in the opening sequence of the video. For the door that I open in the sequence I found one connecetd to the BFI Southbank building. Inside, I noticed that boxes and drinks

The image below represents another location that I had in mind to use, the door was located opposite the BFI Southbank building connected to the Queen Elizabeth Hall. I went inside the building looking for the door but could not find it. I originally attempted to look for a member of staff that could help me but unfortnuately a seminar was taking place therefore much of the staff where busy.

The images to the left show the location that the performance will take place. The room is located inside my school within the music department. However, I will empty the room and cover most of the lights so that I can modify and have complate control of the lighting of the room.

*UPDATE Location Recce for performance setting

The other setting I was initially planning to use was much too small, I therefore decided to use the actual music video of the school. This is very convenient as the room contains already many music instruments such as drums and an electric guitar that I can use for the shoot. There are also speakers and a computer that I will be able to use to play the music out of so that my performers can play along.

However, there are weaknesses such as the background which links the setting to a school environment. This does not fit into the theme and style of the album.

Considering this, I decided to evetually use black fabric to cover up the background during my second shoot.
