To develop my artist, I have created this artist profile in order to elaborate the band's influences, appearence and personality
Artist Profile:
Band Name: The Birds and Wings
The inspiration behind my band name comes from the two bands, 'The Byrds', and 'The WIngs' also known as 'Paul Mcartney and the Wings', whose music both roots from eras of psychedelic rock. For instance, The Byrds created what is considered the first 'full blown psychedelic rock record by critics'. As well as this, Paul Mcartney before he formed The Wings, was part of The Beatles who, like The Byrds', had a huge influence on the psychedelic rock genre.
How do I describe my music?
Conceptual, experimental, metaphorical, 'trippy', halucenogenic, retro, 60's-70's inspired rock music, pyschedelic / post-psychedelic rock influence.
How do friends, fans, or business associates describe my music?
Audiences often associate pyschedelic rock with its Indian roots e.g. when asking someone what they though of psychedelic rock, they proceeded to imitate the playing of a sitar.
If I had to put my music into categories, what would they be?
- Psychedelic Rock
- Alternative
- Rock
- Experimental
- Indie
- Folk
Are there defficienceys in my music?
Defficienceys in my music might include vocal range, while still being good at singing, vocals are used mainly as just another instruement rather than the 'main atraction' such as with solo artists such as Etta James who is reknown for her vocal range.
Therefore vocal range in my music is limited.
What kinds of people come to my show? What do they wear? How do they behave? How old are they?
Fans of 60s music, hippy style clothing, steretypically under the influence of drugs such as acid or cannabis. While this description will correspond to an older generation of listeners, young people who have grown up with parents listening to this style of music is also an audience. Therefore, age of listeners ranges from 18-60 years old.
Who buys my music and where do they buy it?
They buy my music online and listen to it on spotify - sites such as YouTube often have limited results becuase of the lack of popularity of the band in comparison with more mainstream artists. This is synonymous with all psychedelic rock bands.
What other artists (signed or unsigned) are in similar categories to mine, and how would I describe them?
Similar artists include Tame Impala, Quasi, The Soundcarriers, Blonde Redhead, Dr Dog and Foxygen whos sound is or is influnced by psychedelic rock or pop. Other artists include very early and very late David Bowie with songs such as 'Space Oddity' and 'Where Are We Now?' whose sound is both psychedilic and very experimental for the time.
